Description and curator notes
An extensive doctoral study of a women’s pilgrimage to Kāmākhyā that brings religious experience, questions of power and desire, and the politics of interpretation into conversation. Dobia examines encounters with the goddess and the temple through the situated experience of pilgrims, rather than assuming that a goddess-centered tradition has one obvious significance for women. The work offers substantial contextual reading for Kamakhya as a related Śākta identity and sacred site. Its material should be indexed under Kamakhya and pilgrimage rather than represented as a general biography of Kali or as evidence that all goddess names are interchangeable.
