Description and curator notes
Tapasyananda’s compact work combines a life of Sarada Devi, an interpretation of divine motherhood and a presentation of her teachings. It traces her rural upbringing, relationship with Ramakrishna and responsibilities after his death. Kali-specific material includes the Phalaharini-Kali Puja setting of Ramakrishna’s worship of Sarada and a reported vision connecting the goddess’s body with Ramakrishna’s illness. These accounts reveal the way the Ramakrishna tradition interprets embodied holiness and motherhood through Shakta imagery. The work is useful alongside the multi-contributor Gospel of the Holy Mother because it organizes events and teachings into an explicit theological narrative. Its claims about divine identity should be attributed to this devotional tradition, and Sarada’s personal biography should not be merged uncritically with lists of Kali’s scriptural epithets.
