Description and curator notes

This published royal order reinstates Devadetta Upadhyaya as priest of the Kalika temple and two other temples in Khotang, Majhkirat. It withdraws the competing appointment of Srikanta Bhattarai and restores the houses, rice lands and other property belonging to the priestly office and temple endowment. The priest is instructed to maintain worship, construct a temple and tiled roadside shelter, administer the trust and retain surplus income. The order provides concise evidence for the connection between Kali worship, landed support, religious service and royal control of appointments in eastern Nepal. The whole short English item is available, ending with its source reference. Its scope is a modern published translation of one administrative document rather than a detailed history of the temples or a complete edition of the underlying manuscript.

This record covers only the named chapter/article/royal-order translation, not the entire linked proceedings, journal issue or annual volume.

Kali relevance: The Kalika temple is explicitly one of the three institutions governed by the appointment and property-restoration order; the relevance is substantive administration of Kali worship.
