Description and curator notes
Pieruccini compares frightening representations of Śiva, Narasiṃha and Kālī as ways of confronting fear. The sustained final section considers Kālī-Cāmuṇḍā’s emaciation, death imagery, narrative setting and temple representation. It distinguishes sacrificial appeasement, Tantric confrontation and Bengali devotion to the Mother as different responses to divine terror. The conclusion interprets these images as invitations to face the world’s unpredictability, not simply as illustrations of violence.
