Description and curator notes

Drawing on Kullu Valley fieldwork, Halperin examines how cosmic ages frame rapid social and environmental change. A sustained section documents devotees’ identification of Haḍimbā with Kālī through temple signs, a devotional song and interviews. He distinguishes the goddess from the male Kali associated with the age, then analyzes local explanations that place Haḍimbā-Kālī in charge of contemporary history. The argument connects this identification with the goddess’s increasing prominence while preserving her fierce regional character.

This record covers only the named chapter/article/royal-order translation, not the entire linked proceedings, journal issue or annual volume.
