Description and curator notes

A comparative musicological and literary study of the goddess in the songs of C. Subramania Bharati and Kazi Nazrul Islam. It follows Kāḷī, Durgā and Umā across Tamil and Bengali devotional, political and musical settings, examining imagery of mother and daughter, national freedom, social equality and the musical treatment of divine power. Its sustained analysis of songs, rāgas and performance offers a regional reception history beyond generic descriptions of goddess iconography.
