Description and curator notes
A field-based account of Padayani in central Kerala, situated alongside the related goddess-centered performance traditions of Mudiyettu and Tiyattu. The chapter describes the Bhagavati/Bhadrakali myth, ritual progression, mask and kolam construction, songs, social organization and local variation. It draws on an ongoing ethnographic project begun remotely in 2020 and in person in November 2022, with attention to Kurambala and Kadamanitta and the districts of Pathanamthitta and Kottayam.
This record covers only the named chapter/article/royal-order translation, not the entire linked proceedings, journal issue or annual volume.
